Liturgical Ministries

Altar Server Ministry

Patron Saint: Saint Stephen

Purpose: To assist the clergy at Sunday and special Masses – such as Holy Week Services. Altar servers are not at funerals and do not serve at weddings unless requested.

Training/Skills: Training is minimal – most of the training takes place on the job. Two meetings a year for training. There are training sessions conducted usually in the Fall when we receive new members from the religious education program.

Time Needed: One hour a month is all that is required. You are welcome to do more. We are grateful to the parents who drive and coordinate household schedules to allow their children to serve. Having so many young people interested in serving is wonderful.

Tasks/Responsibilities: Process in with the clergy – if no Deacon at Mass – set up the altar with chalices, etc.

Length of Service: There is no minimum. Most serve for several years. Around the 7th or 8th grade – servers begin to “retire."

Annual Retreat: Bowling twice a year.

Coordinator: Fr. Jim McCabe CSsr

Information for Current Altar Servers

Everyone has been scheduled for at least once a month, but if you are willing to serve more than that, let us know. If you want to swap assignments, please contact one another. It is not necessary to tell us.

Be sure to call or email Genny with an update of your email address and mass preferences. Check your Spam folder for emails from gamit1946@hotmail.com if you have not received the schedule.
