Youth

Youth are truly the future of our parish and the church as a whole. St. Martin's is blessed to not only have an excellent religious education program, but also spiritual and social youth organizations that create friendships while teaching and upholding Christian values.

What is Life Teen?
Life Teen is the High School youth ministry program at St. Martin of Tours. Life Teen is an international Catholic movement that serves the Church by providing resources and faith experiences that help lead teens closer to Christ. This is accomplished through a vibrant Eucharistic spirituality and by creating opportunities for teens to grow in their faith.

St. Martin’s Life Teen program is for all High School aged teens (9th-12th grade). Life Teen gathers every Sunday for the 5:30 pm Youth Mass and every Sunday night from 7 - 8:30 pm in the school for our Life Nights.

Life Teen Mass
The Life Teen Mass is every Sunday at 5:30 pm. This dynamic Mass has a youthful spirit and contemporary music. If you are a teen, you’re welcome to join us up front. Families are welcome. Here at St. Martin’s we begin our Life Nights by celebrating the Eucharist through Mass at 5:30 pm. The songs played at this mass are beautiful, moving, and uplifting…come join us and feel free to clap along!

Life Nights follow the Life Teen Mass every Sunday night and provide an opportunity for teens to go deeper in their faith, share their faith with their peers through witness talks and interactive discussion and learn more about issues facing teens today and how to deal with them. These nights are presented by our Core Team made up of young adults from the parish under the direction of our youth minister Erin and Fr. Henry Sattler.

Eucharistic Adoration
The Life Teen Ministry has Eucharistic Adoration with Benediction on the 2nd Tuesday of the month beginning at 7 pm in the Church. Everyone is welcome to join us in adoring, praising and loving Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

Parent Life is designed to give parents an opportunity to support their parish ministry programs while strengthening their own relationship with Christ and His Church. Parent Life meets once a month after the 5:30 Mass in the Life Teen office. Parent Life Nights are run by a Core Team of parents with teens in our Life Teen Program. Parents of middle & high school aged children are welcome to attend, even if their children do not participate in SMT’s Youth Ministry.

Did you know? SMT's Parent Life was featured in The Long Island Catholic. Click here to read the article.

CYO reaches out to the young and their families and seeks to involve them in the life of the parish.

We recently celebrated with the 200 boys and girls who actively participate in our parish CYO basketball program. Trophies were presented and the parish priests also received jackets with "St. Martin of Tours Basketball" on them.

CYO is open to youth in grades 4-12 who enjoy sports activities. For more information or to participate, email Smt.cyo.bball@gmail.com.

Patron Saint: Our Lady of Perpetural Help

Purpose: Life Teen (high school) and Edge (middle school) programs lead teens closer to Christ. We have a Eucharistic focus and hold gatherings that are both social and catechetical, always working towards building personal relationships with God and each other. We work hard to create a sense of community among those who join us.

Training/Skills: Each adult volunteer known as Life Teen Core Team Members (CTM) (at least one year out of high school) will be trained by Erin. Our volunteers vary in ages and skill sets. Our goal is to show the youth Christ's love through our service to them. Core Team Members need to be eager to learn new things about our Catholic faith and excited to present our faith to the youth of the parish.

Time Needed:

Life Teen:
Wednesdays 7 pm - 9 pm — Planning meetings 2 times a month
Sundays 4 pm - 9 pm — Life Night set-up, 5:30pm Mass, Life Night, & Clean-up
Life Teen CTM are also expected to help with our fundraisers & our Winter Weekend Retreat. They are also encouraged to get involved with our Steubenville East Youth Conference trip and Camp Veritas.

Edge:
Wednesdays 7 pm - 9 pm — Planning meetings 2 times a month
Thursdays 6 pm - 9 pm — 2 times a month- set-up, Edge Night, Clean-up
Edge CTM are also expected to help with our fundraisers & our Edge Day Retreat

Tasks/Responsibilities: CTM are encouraged to be active participants in the Life Nights and Edge Nights we plan. There are always various tasks that need to be done to help prepare and execute the nights. CTM can volunteer to give a witness talk, pick-up some supplies, create a prop, be in a skit, etc. Each CTM brings with them a variety of talents. There are many opportunities for everyone to shine.

Length of Service: CTM for Edge and Life Teen are required to sign up for a minimum of one year. It is very important that our youth can count on those familiar faces at our events.

Ongoing Training/Development: CTM are provided with a few different training sessions each year. Additionally, there are official Life Teen Trainings that CTM are given an opportunity to attend.

Annual Retreats: Each year some CTM are invited to attend the Life Teen Training Conference in Arizona. This Conference is a perfect blend of practical training and personal retreat.

All members are also encouraged to attend the annual Redemptorist Lay Associates Retreat held at San Alfonso Retreat Center (late August/early September).
